Pretty sure it's Dayton Electrical Laboratories COmpany.  It was
originally started by Mr. Kettering to produce electical engine starters
(for which he owned the patent) and was later absorbed by GM.  Much Like
AC which stands for Albert Champion who was a big race driver early in
the century.  Of course Champion spark plugs also bears his name.
