I believe it was David Vizard (of "How to Rebuild your Small Block Chevy"
fame who did some dyno testing on a SBC mule along these lines. 1st he did
some pulls with open chamber heads and flat-top pistons. Then he swapped
the heads for closed chambers and put in dished pistons keeping everything
else the same including compression ratio. The engine made almost 20 more
HP with the dished pistons and closed chamber heads.
