Water Injection

Getting off-subject here, but I used water injection on a Mustang 
inline-six a long time ago.  That engine was very prone to detonation and 
water injection did the trick.  Adding alcohol to the mix is imperative, 
since icing can happen even at ambient temps of 60 degrees or so.  Quite 
embarrasing going 45 mph on the Interstate and having to explain to my date 
"No, I'm not a dweeb.  Yes, I know it's a Mustang, but no it won't go any 
faster".  Before long I'd be on the side of the road breaking up an ice 
ball.

Also, because I started with a high-time engine, carbon breaking off the 
pistons (steam-cleaning) would occasionally block open a valve and make it 
run REALLY bad.  Eventually I abandoned the project -- too much of a pain 
for every-day use...

Water injection is effectively used as an octane booster in
naturally aspirated engines. Running water injection full time
allows the use of Regular fuel in higher compression engines.
Its also a great detergent if your planning on overhauling the
engine in a couple of hundred hours.
