Motorcycle EFI?

Been lurking too long, apologies for the bandwidth....
As the list has picked-up, efi on a performance bike is a far more
demanding problem than cars.
At present, there are a few options, mostly twins. The Ducati's and new
generation Laverda's have been efi'd for a while now - but I guess you
4-cylinder boys arn't interested in these (anyway, apart from the 916 they
rev out at around 9k). The new BMW R11's have always been efi'd, using
Motronic, but again max rpm is around 9k. There are a few racer boys
trying these out, but the successful ones have switched back to carbs.
Triumph use efi on the T595/509 triples using a Sagem (French) derived
product. Not heard of amnyone messing with these (yet).
The Japanese are starting to come out with efi, with Suzuki leading the
way. Their 130BHP, 11000 rpm (and 180kg! Ye-Ha!) Suzuki TL1000S had three
chip releases in 18 months to try to get rid of a part-throttle stumble. I
played around with the TL injection system using Fuel Injected Motorcycle's
Ultimap (http://melbourne.dialix.oz.au/~duanefim/fim.html) (no commercial
interest!). Duane seems to be the most advanced person out there but all
his work so far is with twins and the Triumph triples (and he's well slow
answering his email).
The Suzuki injection system is a sealed unit so Duane's box plugs in after
the brain and allows you to trim the pulse width for +-75% for each
cylinder at 9 throttle openings in 1000 rpm intervals. It helped but I
really, really want a wide range O2 meter to get the bike set up properly
on the dyno! The about-to-be-released TL1000R has twin injectors per
cylinder and two flapper valves in the airbox to keep air velocity flow up
at low rpm, to get over the part throttle problem.
As far as fours go.... there's the BMW K series (again Motronic - Landshark
might be able to help here?) but
the new GSXR's are the dog's: 4 cylinder and 12,000+ rpm, but you'll have a
hard time finding them in a breakers yard. In England bike tuners TTS
(http://www.businessconnections.com/tts/default.htm) are allegedly coming
out with a four cylinder retrofit efi system but I haven't heard much about
it.
So, to sum up, retrofitting efi to a twin/triple should be possible using
parts from a bike breakers and FIM's reprogrammer. To efi a four you're
reduced to using the BMW K100/1100 Motronic system and finding a way of
remapping it. The alternative is using a system designed for cars, which,
considering Suzukis experience with the TL, is not recommended if your
looking for ultimate part-throttle and WOT performance. Find out more
about the TL at http://www.micapeak.com/TL1000S/
