All (real) Poncho V-8's were based on the same block pattern (bore centers,
even deck height was always the same, I believe. Would not call it a "big
block", but it certainly was not small --the big limitation on it was
fairly close bore centers--I think the biggest the bores ever got was
maybe 4-1/8". Obviously, pretty tall decks, which made them wide and
heavy, if not that long. The 421/428's had a 4" stroke, the 455's a 4.250"
stroke--a truly Jag like number! Do not remember all the sizes--347 was
1957 size, maybe 377 or so in 58, 389 after that, 421 and 421 SD in 62 for
NHRA and NASCAR, 326, 350, 400, 428, 455. There was even a Rochester
(mechanical) fuel injected 347 built in 1957. Saw one once. The first
really decent heads were the '62 421 SD's. Next real improvement came with
raised intake runners in '65. Later, all the Ram Air variants.
