Cheap O2 Sensors and reference air

I have seen air travel out wires. The setup I saw consisted of the device
under test with a few pounds of air pressure pumped into it. The air
traveled out the product wires (which were glued in place), through a Packard
connector, and out the wire on the other side of the connector. Air bubles
came out the end of this wire. They weren't fast or furious but they were
consistant.

I have also heard many caution against soldering wires onto the O2 wires. I
am curious if this isn't because the wires may seal but it being related to
the fact that lead quickly contaminates O2 sensors.

I have a 4 wire sensor which appears to allow air to enter the crimp on the
top.
