Well for instance, on an old boat I had once, some years ago, it had a volvo
2100 engine with a no-choke carb. on it, it was a total bitch to get started
and stay running, well no lie,
so I got a B230f volvo FI manifold/rail/t-body from a junkyard...fit perfectly
on the boat,
Went to another junkyard and got a GM computer from a 2300 Pontiac '89 grand am,
or some such....similar sized engines....and wired it up with GM sending units,
batch fired the injectors like GM (experimented with the configuration here, and
found it made absolutely NO differance as which two were wired in a batch, boat
ran same either which a way)
since I had a water cooled exhaust manifold I could not do an O2 sensor, so I
just forgot about it, only code set was no o2 sensor, so I forgot about
it.....
performance increase was astounding.....really,...I went up 3 prop sizes, nearly
doubled lo end torque, it seemed, and could run all day on 1/2 tank of gas, as
opposed to the previous full tank of usage.....
I can't remember the specific numbers now, as I sold the boat some years ago,
withthe injection on it....
I would use the 1227730 computer, as it does NOT require a MAF sensor...use the
tables and MAP, certainly a much simpler wiring setup, with an increase in
reliability....MAF tends to foul up, relays burn up, and it's expensive, and
hard to plumb....
unless you want to waste time with doing your own chip, don't get me wrong
here, but I don't have the time to sit down and figger out all that arcane
programming crap, allthough it's interesting, I would just buy an aftermarket
chip...200 bucks and it's done.....GENE
