It's a difference between steel and cast iron and the physical
properties of the materials themselves. It has to do with the
grain structures of the materials, the excess carbon present
in cast iron compared to steel, etc. It's the reason that machine
tools are all made from cast iron, not steel. If you want a better
explanation than that, consult a materials science textbook. :-)
