Another guess... The pre-turbo exhaust system acts as a shock absorber/balancer
for exhaust pulses,,,, not too much restriction for the exhaust exiting the ports
and not too hard of a pulse at the turbin inlet.. Volume and length and tube size
and stepped and 4/2/1 etc all play a part... Tom
