They reverse cooled the LT1 to keep the intake charge cooler in an attempt to control
detonation with 10.5:1 compression.  With the LS1 (even though they run 10.8:1) being an
all aluminum block and heads, GM decided not to reverse cool.  That may have also been
decided by the space available for the water pump.
