Not Corvette up to 1980.  Halfshafts provide support for rear wheels. 
Ceter pin of differential is considered part of the suspension. 
Vettes have two rods from bottom of differential to bottom of knuckle,
knuckle is mounted on a trailing arm, and the spring is mounted
laterally, connected to the rear of the knuckles.  FYI.
