In my quest for information on the RINIX computer system used on the Jeep
4.0 Liter engine circa 1987 ~ 1990, I was able to get a complete Cherokee
wiring diagram & diagnostic manual and a system computer codes manual from
the Mopar manual folks. All to no avail. No one makes a code reader that
will talk to this computer system. No "check engine light" either. I even
hooked up a protocol analyzer to the output data port on the test connector.
Nothing. The serial data stream appears to be proprietary. Since I was
having problems keeping the engine running, that is when I gave up on the
RINIX system.
This was all for an engine swap I did into a 1982 Jeep CJ7. I finally used
the 1994 Wrangler (Mopar) computer system. The MAP sensor and the injectors
are the same. I had to change the rest of the sensors and the
throttle-body to 1994 issue. The engine runs great now, and a code scanner
is available for this computer.

Would you have any information on the Jeep Cherokee 1989 Engine Control
Module diagnostic system? I have the pinout but that is about it. As a
hobbyist challenge, I would like to build a diagnostic analyzer for this
beast. Thanks.
