Shouldn't a efi fuel pump made for methanol work for water?

Would work for a while.
Better guestion is why not use a water pump, if you want to pump water

Maybe even a pump made for petrol works?

Yes they can for a while

What does a standard electronic injector think of water?

It tastes funny

Has anyone tested this?

Yes, there are at least two co.s doing the above.
Trouble is not what **I** consider enough pressure.
At 200 PSI you can get a really fine spray, and I haven't seen an EFI
capable of that.
Folks tend to think of water as corrosive, and forget that it's erosive as
hell
I wouldn't be surprised to hear of a neat way to do it, here thou
