The stuff used in two and three liter soda bottles does not turn into
shrapnel. You can eventually cause it to split and leak all the air out
if you try hard enough, but it'll all be in one piece. You can cause a
more dramatic failure by filling it with water, capping it, and flinging
about 180 grains of lead at it at, oh, 2400 feet per second, which will
make it all melted and deformed looking... but it'll *still* all be in
one piece, just not in a shape that holds water very well.
