Just to get an idea of the complexity of the 1979 version
of the Cadillac ECU, my drawing is 6 sheets of
11 X 17" paper, hand drawn. Approximate parts used

     11 ICs, one is custom
     44 transistors
     55 capacitors
     77 resistors
     39 diodes
21 precision resistor 7 pin networks
2 precision resistor 28 pin networks
     2 relays
     1 MAP sensor
     206 electrical nets or nodes
     23 connections to outside world

The whole thing is on a pair of 5" by 9" single sided
circuit boards and 190 wire jumpers. Bendix 1615173

That throttle position switch is like one wiper with
22 positions and 4 output buses. It is also sensitive
to direction of rotation, lifting off the contacts when
closing the throttle. There are no resistance
elements here. I know what a J-K flip-flop is but I
haven't figured how it fits into the ECU operation.
This thing is full of analog adders, shifters, timers,
and multipliers. Bruce Roe
