Basically just pretty amazing hardware for '57.
I also remember something about a Tecalamet (sp??) Jackson FI unit, at Le
Mans, in the days of the big Mark IV Ford 7 liter FE's and Calliope headed
FE's ( this is mid to late 60's) that was written up as using a bank of
computer memory to store a map of injector pulse widths for different
engine operating conditions! Don't remember if it was MAP-n or Alpha-n,
though! Talk about a forerunner, and I DON'T mean a Toyoda SUV model!!!
Another bit of fossildom is if you wanna know who did the first REALLY high
tech stuff in racing, lookup the history of the Howmet Turbine endurance
racing car.--First to use berylium brake rotors, titanium rotor hats (for
low heat conductivity), titanium suspension bits, substantial down force
(directed the turbine exhaust straight up for about 700 lbs of down), lots
of honeycomb, etc.!!!! Tales had it that the Howmets were the only cars on
which you could NOT see the brakes at night at the end of Mulsanne!!
Them wuz de daze!
