Erasing an EEPROM

Does anyone know of a good way to erase an SPI EEPROM while it's still
attached to the board? I'd like to somehow read the thing into the
computer and save it in case this experiment goes wrong, but the gizmo
is a paperweight right now anyway. Anyone have any ideas?
