You can also find out more on this filter by searching on "first order smoothing" or "single exponential smoothing". 
It's application can get pretty complicated considering how simple it looks. To save time (and maybe a few brain cells), you 
can just use a spreadsheet and sample data to graph how different Cf values affects the result.
