Shock Sensor Question

Steve, 

Could you steer me to one of these,  Are these cheaper then the linear
position sensors?

There are small electric motors with integrated position sensors, you
could mount one of them and use the position output.  This is similar to
your mouse idea only already packaged and maybe more rugged.  Plus when
you're ready for the big leagues you could drive the motor for active
suspension control.
