 Some of the new Toyotas have a "fire slot" in the quench area of the
piston to direct a jet of gas as the piston passes TDC.

 I've thought about that one a long while.  Best as I can figure it's a
hack to get around a problem with end gasses trapper around the spark
plug.  Then again, it might be something entirely different...
