Emulator + Editor ?????

I seem to vaguely recall that somebody was working on a scheme a while ago,
whereby an emulator could be tied into one of the available editor packages
(Winbin? GME Pro? Something Else? If forget.....). The idea was that
one could edit a cal within an editor package that supported a user friendly
engineering units & graphical environment, and then at the press of a
button, download/dump the modified file directly to an emulator device
without having to leave the editor program. Not sure whether this was
purely for batch dumps during downtime, or for real time edits during
operation. Anybody else remember discussion of this? Did this ever come to
fruition? If it did, exactly what hardware and software is involved to do
so? Would be a lot better than having to think about, and modify, raw hex
data when using an emulator.
Walt.
