after market airflow meters

Lean it out?I was always under the impression that if you bought a
aftermarket air mass meter that you have already done a few mods,like
exhaust and filter.The aftermarket one just runs it a tad richer to take
advantage of these new found ponies.
 This is why i thought the programmable efi systems were of great benefit,as
they can be tailored to each aftermarket part added.

Am i wrong?
