Nope, at least not in GM. Same in Ford I think.
Yes, this means that one plug of each pair fires "backwards". I think
there's a waste-spark Ford which came from the factory with platinum
plugs. Half the cylinders got platinum electrodes, the other half got
platinum tips. The service parts have platinum on both surfaces so that
mechanics/owners can't mix them up.
