You want to talk about maximum power for "sustained periods of time",
suggest you take a peek at how Cummins, Cat, Mack, Deere, and IH do things
!
AND--if you MUST go to Germany, try Maybach or Hanomag, not some weenie car
engine that is occasionally asked to burn off some of its owner's excess
testosterone !
If you want to peek at what needs to be done to reliably make maximum power
for "hours on end" , try Waukesha or Wartsila !
For high power to engine weight ratio together with reliability together
with sustained (significant) power output, try Curtiss Wright or Pratt &
Whitney multi-row radials. And note, carefully, the difference between
their take-off/emergency power ratings and their sustained cruise power
ratings.
