[I posted the following message last Saturday to the list, but I am not
sure if it went out, so here it is again]
Just an update on the MegaSquirt group purchase: we are doing a minor PCB
board re-spin to fix a few component hole sizes and replacing the
totem-pole FET drive circuit with a drive circuit from On-semi - this will
make the board easier to assemble and guarantee operation down to very low
temperatures. I will be posting the new schematics on the www site within
a few days:
http://www.bgsoflex.com/megasquirt.html
It will take approximately two to three weeks to have the prototype PCB
boards made up, populated, and tested. Once this is complete, we will start
up the one-time group buy. The original goal of U.S.$100.00 per kit plus
shipping (professionally etched PCB with silkscreen and soldermask, all
board components including pre-programmed micro-processor and MAP sensor,
connectors, and case) is still on track. It looks like the lead times for
the components and the PCB fabrication will be around 4 - 5 weeks. So, with
no hiccups with component leadtimes, ship time for the kits should be right
around the end of December/first to middle of January. We need at least 100
units ordered in the group to get the price down to the $100.00 target.
Please hold off on requests for kits until we are ready - we will post the
details of the group purchase here when it starts up.
Also, we have posted the PC Configurator program on the WWW site, and all
of the required embedded files, along with the P&E assembler. Note that
there will be some changes to the PC Configurator and the embedded source
occuring within the next few weeks:
1) A better tuning page for the PC Configurator, to include all runtime
parameters and allow for one-handed tuning, while keeping the other hand on
the steering wheel.
2) With the change of the FET driver to the On- Semi MC33151 device, the
output drive form the processor will need to be inverted in software. I
will make this as a #define in the beginning of the code to allow inverted
(for the On-semi driver) or non-inverted (for the totem-pole circuit).
3) The addition of a "Bootloader" code which will allow one to re-load the
EFI embedded controller program via. the serial port and PC Configurator.
Right now, one has to program the GP32 device using a dedicator programmer
or programmer circuit. With the bootloader program burned in (using a
regular programmer the first time) one can re-load the entire program with
the current MegaSquirt hardware, i.e true in-circuit re-programmability.
Any new algorithm changes, bug fixes, etc, can be easily downloaded right
in the car via. the serial port. I should have this code finished and
tested before the group purchase shipment, and included in the
pre-programmed GP32 parts.
