plug readings vs electronics

Ricky & Jason,

please enlighten me how EGT readings can go up due to
detonation, when inside the cylinder the shock wave
is scrubbing away the boundary layer and exposing the
relatively cool pistons and cylinder head directly
to the combustion gases? Wouldn't the gases cool off,
or is there some new law of thermodynamics I haven't
heard of?
