Or perhaps a UV flame detection "peeper"  as used in some industrial
boilers/furnaces for flame detection??

UV goes through the right kind of quartz--- (dreaming up possible ways to
"ruggedize" a peeper)

Also, there is a huge increase in UV in the chamber as detonation begins to
rear its head.
