F1, trickle-down, etc.

Yea, well, I enjoy the "music" of everything from a two-stroke 125
road-racing bike all the way up to the big Top Fuel motors, so F1 cars sound
kinda cool to me. They're not my favorite, though, and if anyone thinks
they're loud then they need to get out to the next NHRA event:)

F1 is suffering because they've got enough technology to take the driver out
of the equation, but not enough technology to really advance the state of
the art. The end result is, as you said, a parade with not a lot of real
racing going on.

For 2002, Grand Prix motorcycle racing is going to allow four-stroke motors.
There's very few rules other than a 990cc limit, no forced induction, and a
sliding scale of minimum weight vs. cylinder count. Get ready for some
serious technology war, and bikes aren't really suceptable to the same
de-emphasizing of the driver/rider so there's still going to be a
hugely-important human factor. This is the sort of stuff that's going to
trickle down immediately, just like Honda did with a lot of their
late-80s/early-90s F1 technology.
