[Diy_efi] How many Bits for PWM injection driver?

Do I need more than 8 bits of counter to produce the PWM signal for a 
simple injection system? Also, if I am doing a batch fire 
system, should I just run the injectors at a fixed frequency,
or is it better to trigger it off the ignition pulses?
