Very few of the "cost-is-no-object" cars use CDI; V8's typically use two 4
cyl conventional flyback systems to get adequate charge time at high RPM's.

The 4-wire, V8, GM HEI stores about 140 mW/Sec./spark in the coils primary
inductance and delivers about half of that to the plug up to about 4500 RPM.
It takes a minimum of about 35 mW/Sec./spark to ignite a charge.

The voltage required to fire a spark plug is 2-3 kV. HV Coils make the spark
longer but less intense.

Many expensive cars use solid wire with resistor plugs and rotor and shielded
plugs and dist cap to control RFI with minimum energy loss.

MSD is nonsense

Jim
