It depends, the knock sensor is acoustic, so anything within a given range
will trigger the K/S. A gear drive may push the noise generated over the
edge, and trigger the K/S. About the time people NEED a gear drive, they're
running a radical enough cam, that valvetrain noise is a closely related
issue, for false triggering.
