[Diy_efi] IGBT for coil driver?

Hi guys!

Is there a problem in using a *BIG* (70A) IGBT (irg4pc50f) for a coil driver 
in a ignition, using an old (oil filled, Duraspark) coil?
Is a protection diode really needed between the IGBT with this size of 
transistor ?
I don't want to fry my IGBT because I have only 1 and it is unavailable in my 
city and a hassle to get :)
