They are typically not "connectable" from both sides. The cabin side usually
contains the female terminals connected directly to the interior wiring harness.
Time and terminals are all that prevent one from mounting a pair of bulkhead
connectors in a thin box with female-to-male jumpers. The cabin side connector will
plug into one side of the bulkhead "jumper" assy, the engine harness will connect to
the other.

The factory connectors have terminals of different sizes to handle different amounts
of current. They bolt together and the terminals are retained fairly well. They
are cheap at most junkyards.

Again, my choice is GM wiring harness. Stick to GM colors. For example, ppl has
been the GM starter solenoid wire color since before sliced bread came back. Pink
(and recently, pink/black) has provided power at all times, and red or orange is
live when the key is on. I may be able to find a list of gm colors, or I can go
from memory for most of 'em. And again, the wiring is inexpensive, durable, and
available in wrecking yards. I've also been told that waytek wire carries much
quality wiring and many gm/delco style terminals if you want new off the roll
wiring. If you do a large amount of wiring, it may be a good idea to purchase a
quality crimp tool designed specifically for the terminals you will work with. The
good tools are spendy, but they're worth it.
