[Diy_efi] O2 sensor in the tailpipe?

Hi,

Is it unreasonable to expect a heated O2 sensor to function at all if
inserted in the tailpipe?   Since the exhaust won't be hot enough, I was
wondering whether the heated type would compensate?

The vehicle does not have an O2 sensor currently and I was hoping to get to
decent mixture levels with a tailpipe sensor before I start modifying the
exhaust manifold.
