[Diy_efi] Smog pump and emissions testing question...

>It's the aluminum air tube that gets clogged up.

Oh ok. Well, that's easy to check/fix.

>It couldn't hurt to be pumping air into the H pipe.

Yeah, I was just wondering if it would be better to instead pump the air to
the cylinder heads. I'm going to do one or the other, just didn't know
which would be better. Keep in mind I'm using a factory cat pipe with the
4 cats on it.

That's the problem though. If I set the threshold that high, and they DO
floor it, a dangerous lean condition has just been created. When it comes
down to it, failing emissions is a better alternative to a blown up
motor. But I'd prefer to not have to choose from those options! I will of
course lower the boost as much as possible though.

Sorry, I didn't quite understand what you meant by that. Emissions testing
here is all state run and controlled.

Hah! If getting their "certification" is anything like getting a drivers
license around here, it's a total joke! Last emissions test I went through
with a previous stang (with E'bock heads/intake and E303 cam), the lady
obviously did not know how to drive stick. Cause she (just like my other
example) shifted way too soon on the dyno test. In the next gear, the
engine bogged and the wheel speed flatlined, throwing it out of the
test. She tried this several times, and finally proclaimed that it would
not work on the road dyno because my car "was too low". WTF?!?!?! How
would ride height have anything to do with it, except of course if you were
scraping on stuff, which would be VERY obvious. It had stock suspension
too! lol So you see what kind of lame people run these things! Course I
didn't complain, cause at that point she just did the regular "check
emissions at idle, then rev engine and check emissions again" test, which
is much easier to pass!
