I think you mean 'Ally', the aluminium alloy in the
heads for my VL for example has traces of magnesium and
I think calcium... I've never heard anyone say 'Alloy' as
a euphemysim for Aluminium', its always been 'Ally' unless
the 'strine' is way way off !

I've noticed that on many occasions the recommended drill size for
doing a tapered seems to very often result in larger threads and hence
deeper ingres, sometimes the thread gives out before there's enough
torque/depth. So use some of that white teflon plumbers tape, very thin
and works well at underbody manifold temperatures, I have one on the
manifold relief valve plug - damn 1" plug.
Keeping the drill and the tap perfectly perpendicular makes a big
difference to the 'slack' in the resulting thread especially for Tapered
in 'Ally'.
