well, you'll end up needing to get the harness for the module that exits =
to the connector to go to the ecm... and the newer style module. you may =
want to investigate a little, look for a small cap HEI (it'll be ready =
to go) or look for another large cap hei, but with the later style =
module, no advance, etc. up here in houston you can generally find them =
somewhere around 40 bucks or so, but you may do quite well just sourcing =
up the harness and locking out advance yourself - depends on how much =
you want to go through, i guess. Try looking at place that sell standard =
ignition parts - they should be able to get that harness, if you can't =
find it anywhere else. you could also get it from the GM dealer...

Yes, it does have a vac advance canister which definitely leads me to
believe that it is NOT a comp control distributor. BUT, the presence of =
the
4-pin wiring connector seems to contradict that, doesn't it? The =
distributor
came off of a GM full-size van. The engine was (ugh) a carbureted small
block, but the wiring for the distributor was all connected to what =
appeared
to be a computer harness. The 4V carburetor was also wired to a harness =
of
sorts, presumably an engine control harness of some sort or other. The
module in this particular unit only has 5 pins, 3 on one side and 2 on =
the
other. I do not presently remember their exact markings.
I read an article about converting this type of distributor on an AOL
members page (CustomEFIs page) that described removing the centrifugal
advance mechanism and disconnecting the vacuum advance canister from the
distributor's advance plate. It went on to describe completely locking =
the
centrifugal advance mechanism using a small plate between two opposing =
pins
on the mechanism's upper portion. The article also mentions something =
about
installing a Corvette (9-pin) module inside the distributor body, but I
really don't see where all 9 pins would be used. There are only 7 wires =
that
exit the distributor body. Would the other two pins be unused or would =
they
be somehow connected to the magnetic pickup?=20
