The one I am aware of is timing your sample (and I am

Indeed.  I have trouble thinking of any good reason
NOT to run alpha-n at 75% throttle or better.

The old turbocharged motorcycles from the 80s used the
same method.  Are the Ferraris using that technique
all Weber/Marelli systems?  I know Marelli loves to
use alpha-n wherever possible (witness Ducati).
