Not EFI, but I'll bet many of you motorheads bookmark it. A web site
w/ animations of various engines so you can visualize how they work:

Check out the Atkinson, piston goes thru 4 strokes for each rev of
the crank, so you get 1 power stroke per rev like a 2-stroke.

Note that on many early engines, the intake valve didn't have a
cam to open it, just a light spring which atmospherie pressure
overcame during the intake stroke to admit the A/F mixture.
