Someone is. I would presume that a goodly number of
high-end aftermarket ECU manufacturers do.

I am not sure if this is readily available any more,
but this is a neat little chip. Has a timer in case
low voltage prevents ever reaching peak current, and
has current sensing and switching built in. A
separate injector driver board would allow the ECU to
be "modular" in much the same way that the megasquirt
appears to be; build an ECU with a TTL PWM output, and
then build a driver board that changes that PWM output
into a useful driving signal for your injectors. Yes?
I'm definitely intersted in learning more about the
electronics behind driving an injector. Seems they
are sort of odd beasts to drive, electrically...
