[Diy_efi] Peak cylinder pressure timing

Hi High,

It is possible to use steel washers with strain gauges fitted
under the plug hex.

These cost in the order of $300 but still need to have
the signal processed close by to keep down the noise.

There are quite a few companies that will strain gauge just
about any piece of metal that you give them.

Head bolts are quite doable as are head gaskets.

Of course the question arises as to what benefit the knowledge
of a peak pressure timing (crank degrees) gives.

It doesn't tell you that you have peak power or torque.
It probably does tell you that there is detonation afoot.

Lets say we log lots of incremental values into a table;
say pressure vs degrees crank.

The issue then becomes one of how to use the data acquired.
If you can do fast samples with an FFT function the area under
the curve (torque) becomes apparent.

I have done this with A/D capture cards in a Desktop but have not
seen a micro with this sort of power.

Waddya Reckon ?

Phil
