Hi Guys:

I am new. And very inexperienced. However, I am a quick study mechanically
and electrically. Anyone who is extremely familiar with the Chevy 5.7 TBI
and its computer/harness/sensors, please shout back. I would very much like
to tap into some good technical expertise and identify where information can
be found for the proper operation, repair, overhaul and maintenance of such
a system.

Thanks,

How do I get this thing to work with my computer? I think the instrument
cluster "cleaned up" the signal in the truck? Will it work to just hook up
the speed sensor wires directly to the ECM? Any help would be greatly
appricated...

The 747 for his TBI wants a 2000 ppm "optical" signal. Electrically,
the ECM is expecting a "switch" to ground that opens and closes. The
donor vehicle should have had a box that did the needed conversion. It
might have labeled as a "4 OUT BUFFER". BTW, the "box" does the 4000 to
2000 conversion too.

Your 749 can use two different types of VSS signal depending on a mode
bit in the EPROM. One setting will accept the same signal as the 747.
The opposite setting wants a 4000 ppm "magnetic" signal to be applied
across a pair of ECM pins. The "magnetic" signal can be created via a
DC motor run backwards (aka generator) or a reluctor setup.

Hi,
I've now got an intake "pop" at key-on (inline 4 cyl with plenum)
and I guess this is a leaky injector (since I've just installed
some). They are new, so I wasn't expecting problems ... are there
any other likely causes of this? It seems to be worst after it's
been standing for a while, and the pop is *before* the priming is
complete or cranking has begun.
Thanks for your insight,
Rod

Another potential option is that it's the fuel
pressure regulator. Why did you replace the old injectors?

Hi, I'm new to this list. I own three late model Chrysler products that all
have OBDII and I want to be able to troubleshoot these babies to the Nth
degree. My daughter is starting college this year, that means I will not be
buying any new cars soon! I have an Actron scan tool, but all it does is
give the error codes and allows you to clear them. Like it's one step better
than a blinking MIL. So I need something where I can hook up and get good
stuff like sensor output voltages, be able to control actuators, etc. I've
seen software/cables for laptops and PDA's. Actron has a model CP9145 that
supposedly gives you that capability. I build computerized electronic test
and control systems for a living, so this stuff is right up my alley. Any
opinions out there? What are my options?

Thanks, Tom Manson
