You must "know" something because OE's don't inject "straight into the
cylinder".  In automotive SFI, it is customary to inject into the intake
runner when the intake valve is *closed*.  This (one) cools the intake
valve, and (two) helps evaporate the fuel for better mixing.

Direct gasoline injection is a different technology with different trade offs.
