Well sure it MIGHT work.  Or it MIGHT put a strain on the ECU 
that would leave you stranded somewhere without warning.  
Feel free to gamble, but I'd examine the particular circuitry 
very carefully first.  The ORing at the logical level is pretty 
low risk.
