It would be interesting to see a photograph of how they mounted the LED an=
d
sensor=2E
I have been told the cameras on formula one cars use microphones to listen=
to the exhaust note to disply RPM on the TV display=2E
I looked at a nice cheap electret microphone from Panasonic that has good
performance
http://www=2Epanasonic=2Ecom/industrial/components/pdf/em06=5Fwm61=5Fa=5Fb=
=5Fdne=2Epdf
that might be easier to install than an LED + photodiode=2E A frequency
counter could then be used to display the RPM=2E

I did a turbo speed sensor for my car, ended
up using a visible (white) light LED and fast
sensor, can put pictures up on my web site if
I can find space or (dare I say it) even a torrent
on my private tracker ;-)
