Sounds very possible that this is Honda's way of
complying with the Federal emissions mandate that end
users be "discouraged" from removing emissions control
devices.
What would be very interesting would be to check out
an all-stock vehicle of the same make, model and age.
See what the difference is between open-loop with the
O2 in place vs. with the O2 removed. Is it a straight
percentage of pulse width added to the base map, or a
constant added to the base map? Or is the base map
really that rich? Once you know the answer, then
tuning should be a whole lot easier.
Or you could substitute another solution in the form
of a different ECU. Someone might even make a product
to handle this problem (as it must have been seen
before by others).
