Gotta plug the ends real solidly to keep sand from shifting - on steel 
y'weld caps on.  And, major caution if yer gonna use heat - sand has to be 
DRY DRY DRY, otherwise you got yerself a steam bomb, plenty 
shrapnel-capable.
