Jerk is a slang for the derivative measurement of a sudden deceleration of the crank shaft speed from one time between cylinder firings to another, that can only be caused by poor or no combustion on a single cylinder. If a cylinders max pressure is not at or around 12 deg ATD or does not have the peak that the other cylinders have then it is posisble to detect this at a given crank speed and medium to heavy load. It is best if ther crank speed is NOT meauered with a free running counter, but a instead a counter that has its tics fired directly by the pulses of the crank shaft time wheel.
