8051 ECM Usage

I pulled the VIN from the junkyard 8051 ECM last night. It corresponded to a
L99 equipped 4.3L (small V8) Caprice Classic LS. Just wondering if the web
page I used to decode was correct - did the L99's/small V8's use those
ECM's? Seems to me kinda strange, my 5.7L idled fine with the program. :)
Looking at a 1994 "W" engine code in the VIN (1G1BN52W3RR124354)
