Hi Terry

In my Mitchels it does not mention any retard being dailed in
for the 86-89 5.7 PFI.. It does say there is 17 degrees retard
for 730 apps when code 43 is set.

43 is set by either the esc module sending a low to the
ecm longer than 5 secs.. or failure of the self test.
temp >194 near Wot the ecm will advance timing
till a count is set.. Think it trys 5 times.. if it fails
code 43 is set..

Oh by the way Bruce do you have holes in
your headers just by the ports to see flame color too????
